"Me" to "We" - Building & Fostering a "We" Community

Over the past 6 years or so, I have been enamoured by the positive effects of creating winning company cultures. The list of positive benefits on building company culture are endless.

From lower company turn over rates, sick days and burnout rates to higher levels of productivity, top talent acquisition, and increases in both innovation and creativity.

Clearly, the benefits of building a winning culture are endless!

There is one benefit in particular that rarely gets mentioned and in my opinion should be on the top of the charts. A Company culture allows people the ability to belong to something bigger than themselves; it creates the power of community.

As humans, we have an innate need to belong. Belongingness is the human emotional need to be an accepted member of a group. Whether it is family, friends, co-workers, or a sports team, humans tend to have an ‘inherent’ desire to belong and be an important part of something greater than themselves.

Creating community means getting people together that share similar values, interests and beliefs; each setting aside their own interests and coming together for a common purpose.

Building and fostering a ‘we’ community is powerful!

Look at the accomplishments of Wikipedia contributors, TED Talks contributors, Hyperloop open source, and doctors who share important diagnoses in Sermo social network.

Whatever it is your passionate about, find that community that speaks to you – you’re not alone. Whether your community is joining a gym, spinning, yoga, art, kickboxing, languages, or its music, sports or even walking. There is virtually a community waiting for you to ignite your passion!

Over the years, I’ve done just that – I’ve aligned and found communities that help me ignite my passion. From soccer to Landmark Education, Mastermind Talks to Sterling, the numerous communities I choose to be a part of, light me up in so many ways. My communities support me to grow and expand, challenge my conventional way of thinking, get me out of my comfort zone, create accountability while motivating, enable me to learn new things, help me to contribute, and definitely fuels my passion and creativity! Most importantly, connecting with people who share in, and ignite my passion has me building life long relationships that are always only one phone call away!
