It’s your life… PLAY BIG
A New Year is upon us and with it brings much anticipation for great things ahead!
I personally love this time of year as it allows me the time to both reflect on what transpired over the previous year along with the opportunity to forge a forward vision for the year ahead. Looking back is a tricky task, since many people pay attention to what wasn’t, what didn’t happen, and what could have been. Although challenging, there is nothing wrong with that inquiry, in fact, I think its healthy as long as you don’t dwell on it for too long.
What I love doing is crafting a “Wins” exercise, to shift my focus and momentum to the many great things that happened over the course of the last 365 days! This exercise works best when you are clear and free from distraction, so find yourself that special place. Once there, I start with reflecting on what I’m thankful for, as this primes my brain to be in appreciation and sets the momentum. From there I begin to explore the previous year starting with January and working may way throughout the year! At first, this might take a while, but you’ll find yourself getting into a groove and before you know it, your exercise is well on its way! Once complete, your year will most certainly amaze you – I promise!
At this time of year, many of us are setting the stage for the New Year ahead! Many are setting new years resolutions, new goals and objectives, and some are even taking on new rituals, perhaps journaling, and or meditating. On the contrary, some despise setting goals, many dread the new years resolutions in fear of failure some 15 days later. No matter what you do, remember this, whether you do set goals or not, don’t be hard on yourself, and make sure whatever you decide serves you first!
I personally gave up setting new goals, since my plans for the future roll into the following year and change given the direction I’m pointed in. I am less focused on task oriented goals; rather I’m focused on a way of life and being! I believe that if I’m in a great state of mind, body and soul, my direction and energy will flow in the momentum of what feels great! I do my best to pay attention to how I feel, what excites me, what lights me up, what drives, what peaks my curiosity? I usually start there and go with it…
Be cautious, there is one thing that can limit you from all you ever wanted and everything you dream about for your life. That kryptonite is called criticism! As you begin to dream a little bigger, think a little larger, and dare a little higher, people will take notice and begin to have an opinion on your life; and many will even criticize you! The danger here is not the opinions of others, but rather your attention to it. As the writer Elbert Hubbard once said, “To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.” Your life is yours, and what others think is okay, but your attention to it is not!
Its your life; PLAY BIG!
