3 Steps To Achieving Your Best Life
In today’s multitasking, time-sucking, series of events we call life, it’s easy to get caught up in the rat race. We are all so busy doing “stuff”, we put off the great things until tomorrow. We ignore our dreams each day.
We often say to ourselves, “I’m busy but when I get through this, I’ll start making my dream happen!”
Sorry to burst your bubble, but there will never be an ideal time. The reality is, we all have “stuff” to do, all the time. It’s never going to go away. Your “to do” list will never be empty.
So, what are you to do? If you’re still reading, great! It means you want to live a life filled with things that make you happy, and soar even higher.
Step 1 – Prioritize the Positive
Over the past few years, I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by many successful people who are truly living a life they designed. That’s right, you heard me. They are living a life they designed. Whenever I’m in conversation with them, I ask what’s their secret sauce; what is it that’s made them successful? In my blog, I define successful as the state of achieving what you have set out to achieve while having fun. The response is almost always the same, “I’m hyper focused on what I want in life versus what I don’t want in life.”
I truly believe whatever you desire in life can be achieved! Now for sake of the length of this blog, I want to focus on one area that has helped me achieve success – focus! Focus is traditionally defined as “selectively concentrating on one aspect of the environment while ignoring other things.” This seems like it would be so simple and easy, but we forget to do it! Remember, we live in a crazy, fast-paced multitasking, time-sucking environment.
Step 2 – Make The Change
Recently, I’ve taken up an exercise that has really helped me concentrate on achieving the things I want, rather than focusing on the things that I don’t! It’s a simple switch and the results have been crazy awesome. Allow me to explain!
In order to complete the exercise effectively, I want to share the philosophy around achieving success. First off, you need to know what you want in life. Many people say they know exactly what they want, and when asked to write it down, they go blank. So try this:
• Step one: write out what it is you want in life. This exercise is best done alone.
• Step two: pay attention to how you feel writing the list and how you feel after it’s written.
• Step three: be as specific as possible with what you write down on your list.
The secret is to be hyper-focused on what you want while forgetting about what you don’t want.
Now here is the exercise that has changed my life. I’ve recently added this to my morning ritual, and I cannot tell you how much this has impacted me for the better.
It’s simple. I wake up and write out what I am thankful for, and how I want the day to go. That’s it.
Here’s an example:
“Today is an awesome day! My family is healthy and we are moving forward in life! At work, we have gained the biggest client in our history and have exceeded their expectations. We continue to strengthen the Roma Culture and attract the best talent in the industry.”
By doing this, I set the momentum for the day as I continue to stress what it is that I’m grateful for, but also what I’m looking to achieve that day. I am setting my concentration and focus on achieving my goals.
After doing the exercise I feel awesome. I am pumped and ready to start the day! For me, it sends a message to the universe that says this is how I want my life to be. I focus on designing the life I want, rather than waiting around for life to hit me on the head.
And do you know the best part about this exercise? It sets your mind to focus on the positive things in life, while you design your own reality.

Step 3 – Focus
Someone once told me it’s lazy to look at the negative. You know why? Because it’s so easy to focus on the negative aspects of your life. Take business, for example; it’s common to focus on how something won’t work, and all the ways in which it won’t work.
Often I’ll start our forums/meetings with the following statement, which shifts the conversation. I’ll say “Let’s have a solutions-based conversation, focusing on ways to solve challenges.” This helps us not to get sucked into sitting around the table and talking about the ways things won’t work, because don’t you just hate those conversations? And what do they accomplish?
I highly suggest beginning your day with a focus on what it is you want in life! Add this exercise to your morning ritual. While it will only take a three minutes, it will start the day powerfully and, over time, your focus will shift.
So stop being lazy and focusing on the negative. Be intentional, be bold, and the positive momentum will build. Pay attention and look for evidence throughout the day – the results will astonish you – Focus – Focus – Focus!!!
